Undocumented sums from photocopying
The Centre Français d’exploitation du droit de Copie (CFC) has authorised SOFIA to receive that part of “undocumented sums” that is due to authors (different arrangements have been made for publishers). These are primarily the levies imposed in France on copying agencies and libraries, which lack any reference to the book copied. Sums levied abroad for which the CFC holds no details of titles or authors’ names for the books copied also come under this category.
Following on from a decision of the Committee of the CFC in June 2001, these sums are paid annually by the CFC to collection societies and to the authors making up its Authors’ College (SACD, ADAGP, SCAM, SAIF, Succession Picasso, Succession Matisse and SOFIA is responsible to each of them for the distribution to its own members who have declared their books to the database of these societies.
